Downtown Crested Butte Dining

Breakfast/Lunch

Butte Bagels, 218 Maroon Ave. A, 970-349-5630

Ever seen that line of people in front of a small, red shack behind the post office…? There’s a good reason that line is so long! These house-made bagels are a true staple of CB. And although the name has changed a couple times over the years, the delicious factor remains the same. Opt for that veggie cream cheese on your bagel, nom nom nom. Or go for a bagel sandwich! We choose the Hippie because house-made pesto with eggs is just ::kisses fingertips loudly::

Daily Dose, 330 Elk Ave. Unit C, 970-251-5415

The literal perfect go-to breakfast joint. Owned and operated by long-time local Gretchen, she’ll make you reconsider any previous judgement you had about a smoothie being lame. So, load up on what’s good for you! Not into a bevvy for breakfast? Grab a sammy or a burrito! Organic. Made-to-order. Many friendly options for everyone: herbivore, omnivore, or gluten-free.

Gas Cafe, 602 Butte Ave., 970-349-9656

Affectionately known by locals as the “Gasser,” you’ll find this hidden gem inside the Exxon on the edge of downtown just before driving up the mountain. Call in your breakfast sammy before a big day of adventure—don’t stop at the MC Stop—go ahead and get that Hurley with the hashbrown in da middle. And while breakfast is our favorite from here, lunch should not be ignored. Their Philly cheesesteak is on point. The Working Man burger…we can taste that locally raised beef now!

You’re not making it out of CB without a trip to our classic, you-can’t-go-wrong diner! Pop into a stool at the counter, and order up a big Haystack breakfast—not just because it’s the first thing on the menu, but that gravy…! If you’re around for lunch, go for the Double Bacon BLT. Because if you aren’t doubling up on bacon, what are you even doing?! Open 7am-2:30pm.

Paradise Cafe, 435 6th St., 970-349-5622

Voted “Best Breakfast Joint” for 5 years in a row, it’s unsurprising to drive by and see a line out the door. There’s just something about that “Baggins” option with the Eggs Paradise…keeps you dreaming of green chiles the night before. You’ll want to order a Paradise Bloody Mary with that. Or spring for the Paradise Bloody Maria and swap vodka for tequila! Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or lunch, Paradise is open 7am-2pm and serves breakfast all day. Lunch menu begins at 11am.

Lunch/Dinner

Baldy’s, 327 Elk Ave., 970-212-7094

These new kids on the block bring some much-needed “artful sandwitchery” to downtown. We’re talking beyond your basic turkey and cheese, although that is an option. We can’t get enough of “The shorts”—featuring ham, cheddar, apple, pickled onion, spicy brown mustard, gouda, and greens. Our stomachs are rumbling at the thought. Awesome vegetarian options available too! Open for lunch Monday through Saturday.

Start with a signature cocktail and a chunk of fresh sourdough. Ease into a medium plate like the perogies. Finish off with a fabulous flatbread—and ask for the dipping sauce! Izakaya Cabin: Japanese Bar & Grill, 321 Elk Ave., no phone (yes, for real)

Before you get all squeamish about eating sushi in the landlocked Rocky Mountains…what if we told you these champs fly in fresh fish three times a week? Now we’re talkin’! “Izakaya” is a three-part Japanese word meaning “stay-drink-place.” So, settle in, sake up, and enjoy sushi rolls, sashimi, or yes…even shortribs and fries. Pop into the sushi bar or community table downstairs for a casual vibe with no reservations. Soft and fluffy bread, perfectly cooked cheesesteak, and ooey gooey, melty cheese…yes, please! Located next to Kochevar’s, pop in to soak up some of the booze you’ve been drinking. Or grab it to-go for dinner!

Mikey’s Pizza Take-Out & Delivery, 611 3rd St., 970-349-1110

A large pizza-by-the-slice from Mikey’s could seriously eat any other pizza-by-the-slice for breakfast. We’re not kidding. And if a slice doesn’t completely satisfy you, then take our word for it and order the side of pasta salad. Pretty sure the secret ingredient is magic. Mikey’s is pick-up only, so it’s best for a quick and affordable lunch or dinner.

We highly recommend the spring rolls, mostly because PEANUT SAUCE. Follow up with the Tom kha Gai soup. If you don’t get the peanut sauce with your app, then there’s always the Thai peanut curry!
